Cycle into Summer... and through winter

Cycle into Summer with Ealing Cycling Campaign

At the end of April the group applied for and won a Community Cycling grant to run a bicycle maintenance project. Rather than the classic "Doctor Bike" sessions there will be a strong emphasis on people being shown what to do and being strongly encouraged to do it themselves with our help. We've got a number of tool sets, foot pumps, some work stands and selection of useful components and better still a plan.

We have contacted several schools to attend their summer fairs to run the sessions, this way we get publicty via the school flyer, a constant stream of bikes, a summery atmosphere and a wet weather back up too. Oaklands was our first and there are several more in the pipeline dotted around the borough. We also plan to work with youth groups such as Cub Scouts, Woodcraft Folk and other community groups. We're very much open to suggestions.

As the summer rolls on and we gain momentum we'll run some more formal classes following up promises from Bike Week. We'll keep this page updated as the project progressions.

Feel like you can help? We don't just need people who can do basic maintenance, a key role is people to talk about cycling in Ealing, get some contacts at the school and find out if many children cycle, if not why not? We also need suggestions for events we can attend - not just school fairs, but youth clubs too - or community events. Tells us and we shall see what we can do.
