Could you use a grant?

Interested in improving cycle facilities in your area? The Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions has announced a scheme of grants for cycle projects. Grants between £250 and £50,000 are available for projects aimed at increasing cycling. If you need bike racks at your school, or if you have a business that could benefit from training its staff to cycle, then why not apply. Non-profit organisations will need to find twenty percent matched funding, but this can be in the form of time. The grants are not directly available to Local Councils. Application forms are available from Bob.Richards@dtlr.gsi.gov.uk. Closing day is 31 July 2002.

Top Tips for New Cyclists

Ealing Cycling Campaign has teamed up with Local Agenda 21 and Ealing Council to produce a leaflet to encourage people to cycle to work. The leaflet, to be launched this spring, gives tips to make cycling easier for those starting from scratch or taking it up after a break. It includes advice on everything from pumping up tyres to where to obtain insurance. The leaflet was devised by Ealing Cycling Campaign; Ealing LCC member Nicko Dalton http://daltondesigns.net did the excellent design work; and Ealing Council will pay for the printing. Three and a half thousand copies will be distributed to libraries, bike shops, and other outlets in the borough, while the remaining 500 will be handed out at ECC stands over the summer
