Trams

These could soon be coming to the Uxbridge Road. Since Croydon got it's tram there have been unofficial reports of 25 accidents between cyclists & trams causing broken arms and ribs. In Sheffield 2 cyclists have been killed and 90 injured in the time trams have been there. On the Uxbridge Road cyclists may not even be allowed along certain sections because of health and safety regulations. We hope to bring you more on this as the plans develop.

Infrastructure Improvements

Bob Davis, Ealing's cycling officer, has been making improvements to the London Cycle Network in our area which should be complete by the end of March 2001. This includes coloured surfacing of cycle & bus lanes on Uxbridge Road between Southall Broadway and Acton Vale. A safe lane for turning right off Boston Road into Cambridge Road in Hanwell is already complete. Check these out and let us know what you think.

Sheffield Stands

Stainless steel stands have been installed along the length of Uxbridge Road and other LCN routes during the winter of 2000/01, including most recently ten in Southall. These are of brushed steel which keeps it¹s look well. It is hoped the the old lock-up style stands such as the ones outside Acton Town tube will be replaced with the new stainless steel stands during spring 2001. Do you have any suggestions for cycle parking? Let us know.

Cycle Training

A course to train 8 cycle trainers (due to take place in March 2001) has yet to be followed up with actual courses for children and new/returning adult cyclists. More on this as we get it.
