Cycle Route - Inspectors Wanted

We have just received the invitation to Ealing's next CRIM (Cycle Route Inspection Meeting), for LCN+ (London Cycle Network Plus) link 47.
The suggested date for the meeting and ride along the route is some time during the week of 24-28 January. The route is Northolt Road, Pett's Hill, Mandeville Road, Church Road and The Parkway to the edge of Hillingdon. It is shown on cycle route maps 3 and 8.
Anyway, as I mentioned a while back, it would be jolly nice if we all cycled up and down the route. Something to bear in mind is that the route is not carved in stone. If there is a better way of getting between that particular A and B then it can be suggested. (Bit of a long shot, looking at the map, but thought I'd mention it.) Does anyone fancy going on the CRIM itself? Please let me know soon. It will take all day, but we could always try getting it held at a weekend...

Cycling in the 60's

Many of you missed a real treat on Wednesday 5th, when Peter Mynors gave a fascinating account of a cycle tour in 1962; Guildford, Surrey to Epidavros, Greece; five guys, two bikes (one 1908 triplet and one 1930's tandem), two trailers; 2503 miles in 58 days. It was interesting to see Europe then (no motors in Kosovo, just bullock carts) and hear about the same areas thirty or more years later. Often the cycling is still wonderful, when the old road is still there and the traffic is away on a parallel motorway. (Austria, though I've seen the same in Norway.) Made me want to set off again... even hunt a puncture by dunking the innertube in a melon...
A great success. Who can we get to entertain us in future months?

Local Area Committees

Cycle facilities of various kinds are being presented at each area committee in the borough shortly (one-way exemptions by entry plug and the like). This is where you get to meet local councillors - grass roots democracy - and find out what is going on. It is also your chance to stand up and support plans that make cycling easier - such as contra-flow cycle lanes on one way streets.
The imminent ones are Northolt 12/1; Ealing 13/1; Acton 19/1; Perivale 19/1. Then come Greenford 2/2; Hanwell 3/2; Southall 24/2. For more details, check out: Ealing Area Committees

Meetings

All members are welcome at our meetings. We usually get together on the first Wednesday of the month.

The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 2nd February 2005. Our venue is downstairs at "Cafe Grove" on The Grove, W5. If you haven't been before you are very welcome.
P.S. The cafe does very good cheesecake and Polish beer.
