News January 2009

2009 Rides

The calendar for our ever popular first-Sunday-of-month-social-rides is filling up already. January saw us spin around the canals, February we’re off to Black Park, then there’s Dulwich and several other destinations. We’re always after suggestions for rides and of course leaders to front them – do contact rides@ealingcycling.org.uk for more information..

Waitrose Community Matters

We’ve had a relationship with the West Ealing branch of Waitrose for many years, from providing our cycling breakfasts, giving us food and staff for Bike Week one year and of course working with us in relation to the bike-hods. The branch is taking part in the firm’s Community Matters scheme whereby charities submit an application to be nominated for a month at a time for a share in a £1,000. Three charities a month are selected and we were chosen for November and I collected a cheque for £242 in late December. A very useful contribution to our funds.

New Project

We applied for and won a grant from Ealing & Brentford Consolidated Charities. The project is get people with young child to cycle with them – the idea is to show people who perhaps used to cycle but no longer do so with babies or people who never considered cycling in the first place but now find themselves at home with young children and no easy means of transport. The project kicks off in January, we’re still after people who want to take part now or later in the year. Please contact David Eales on jellied30@hotmail.com for more information.
