Ealing Council win Cycling 'Oscar'

A campaign by Ealing Council to 'market cycling' in the borough has clinched one of this year's London Cycling Awards. Ealing's cycling officer, Dr. Robert Davis, picked up the Special Commendation on 13th October at a ceremony at King's College, London. The award is an endorsement of Ealing's multi-pronged approach to getting bums on saddles. This includes free cycle training, installing bike parking in streets and schools, and 'bike buddy' schemes to help commuters on their journeys.

New Cycle Route for Ealing

As part of the London Cycle Network+, the council are planning a new North-South cycle route. It will run from Hanger Lane Gyratory System, past Ealing Broadway Station and on to just west of Gunnersbury Park. It will be the first LCN+ route in the Borough, and as such will be developed under a new guideline known as CRISP (Cycle Route Implementation Stakeholder Plan). In short, this means we have been invited to walk the route with the engineers and other interested parties, which gives us a chance to make suggestions at an early stage in the planning process. This is potentially the most exciting opportunity for Ealing Cyclists since ECC's formed nearly 10 years ago. For all that time our number one priority has been to open up Ealing Broadway and Haven Green to two-way cycle traffic. If this route goes ahead as drawn on the provisional plan we've received, it will enable cyclists to cycle north up to Ealing Broadway station, and from there on to North East Ealing.

Cycle Maintenance Course

Ealing Council are organising a cycling maintenance course in the borough. It will be run by Cycle Training, and will take place on a Saturday in January. If you are interested, contact Ian Pearson at Cycle Training at 0800 093 6454.
