Dickens Yard (June 2008)

This major development behind Ealing Town Hall includes plans for parking 800 bicycles. This report raises concerns about the lack of space allocated for each bicycle, and problems of access and egress.

LIP Consultation Response (November 2005).

This pdf file is Ealing Cycling Campaign's response to Ealing Council's Draft Local Implementation Plan (LIP). The LIP is a statutory document prepared by each London Borough to implement the Mayor of London's Transport Strategy.  It details the Borough's transport programme until 2011.

This is Ealing Cycling Campaign's response to Transport for London's plans to put a tram along the Uxbridge Road.

Haven Green: Replacement of Zebra Crossings with Pelican Crossings - Safety Issues (November 2002 ). By Ealing LCC.

This report raises concerns that replacing zebra crossings with pelican crossings will increase delays to both cyclists and pedestrians, and may lead to more pedestrian casualties.

Ealing Cycling Strategy (August 1999). By Ealing LCC.

This document defines a cycling strategy for Ealing, and sets out targets to be achieved over the next few years. It has been widely discussed and was presented at the Local Agenda 21 Transport Group. This is, essentially, a citizens' call to action, and it is based on what is currently being debated and acted upon in other parts of Britain. Actual cycle policy in the Borough is less comprehensive, so we would like to see the majority of this document adopted and worked on, at a time when transport policy is seeking new directions and ideas as a result of big changes in the Transport Division of the Council.

Uxbridge Road Report (July 1999). By Ealing FoE and Ealing LCC.

The Uxbridge Road is the major east-west road in the Borough and much of it is dangerous and polluted for cyclists and other road users. This document outlines what we consider to be the basic transport planning measures needed to improve its useability and safety. Field research carried out and this report prepared in response to a Council-commissioned survey by consultants Allott & Lomax.

West Ealing North-South Route (January 1999). By Ol.

A document suggesting a new, safe cycle route between the A40 and the Uxbridge Road. We would like this to be adopted by the Council.

Brent Shared Use Path (January 1999). By Ol.

A proposal, currently shelved, for a greenway around the Borough, to be shared by all types of non-motorised users. This innovative proposal was raised several times at Local Agenda 21 meetings, and the route has been followed on several Council-sponsored National Bike Week rides. We are hopeful the funds will be forthcoming one day to improve access and signing, making this a reality. For the moment, follow the route yourself!

Cycle Parking (December 1998). By Ealing LCC.

A document outlining the merits of various forms of cycle parking currently being considered in the Borough as part of the Council's efforts to improve cycle stands at leisure destinations, like swimming pools and sports facilities.

TVU Cycle Challenge Project Survey (1997). By Simon Batterbury.

The ECC was involved in an important project to improve cycling facilities and to raise awareness of transport impacts at Thames Valley University in central Ealing. The legacy of the project includes the numerous white cycle stands dotted around the campus. This report details the major findings, and the results of a 326-person survey of the travel behaviour of staff and students at the University.

Ealing Agenda 21 Transport Group Recommendations (October 1996). A report by Simon Batterbury, with Bob Gurd, Ol, and Peter Mynors.

This document was presented as part of Ealing's Local Agenda 21 participatory consultation exercise. It contains several recommendations that have actually been adopted two years later. The major proposal to create better access to Ealing Broadway station is still under consideration, having become a political 'hot potato', but has actually emerged in four new proposals proposed in July 1999. Hurrah!
